Generative Fill (beta) in InDesign CC

File > Text to Image > Generative Fill (beta)

Adobe Illustrator CC has a Firefly-powered feature called ‘Generative Shape Fill’ – InDesign is experimenting with the same idea, using Generative Fill on any shape, but also to fill text. You have to have an internet connection to use this feature and can open the sample file used in the above video by going to this page on helpx.adobe.com

With a shape selected, the Text to Image panel pop-up menu will show ‘Generative Fill (beta)’ and you will be offered several ‘Sample Effects’. Choose one or try your own prompt. Three variations will be generated.

With an editable text frame selected, the ‘Sample Effects’ will be text-based. Again, choose one or try your own prompt but you should be aware that when you click ‘Generate’ your editable text is going to be turned into outlined text. It’s always a good idea to make a copy of your editable text frame (by option+/alt+dragging to the pasteboard) before using this feature.

Note: All ‘Text to Image’ – generated images are saved into a folder in your Documents folder called ‘InDesign GenAI Assets’ – even if they are images that were based on an existing file in a Links folder (there doesn’t seem to be a way to control the destination of the newly generated images at this time)
